Cannot be opened in Revit LT because it was last saved in a version prior to 8.1

Hi, I know this has been posted a lot of times but there is no solution that I have found that works for me.
I use Revit LT, I don't have the full version and I only work on files I create.
If the file is created on my PC, it used to be fine if I try to open it on another PC, like my laptop. The problem started for me when I moved my files to a NAS drive (Synology). The NAS syncs with Dropbox. I can no longer open the files on the NAS or Dropbox from a computer except the one it was created on. Before the NAS drive when I had the files on my PC it worked fine.
I cannot open the files with the full version either. The file is not corrupt as I can still open it from the original computer it was created on from the NAS. In the past it worked when I used a newer version, eg; I open a 2018 file in 2020 but even that no longer works. This means that I cannot work on my laptop and I cannot share files with others as they cannot edit the file.
I am away from my PC for three weeks and I cannot do any work which is causing me huge problems. I don't know what will happen when my PC needs replacing and I cannot open any files. If I download the files from Dropbox, same issue. Opening files from Explorer doesn't work either.
This seems to be an issue with files saved remotely. Please sort this out.
