Can't change colors of imported CAD objects

Hello everybody,

I can’t get imported CAD models to change color. I have a Revit Generic Model family in which I have imported a 3D CAD file through Insert > Import CAD. I have tried importing it with both preserve and invert colors settings. Once it is imported it has all kinds of different colors. I would like to change the object to an egqual grey color. What didn’t work:

• Changing in Manage > Object Styles > Imported objects all the listed categories to a grey material. Including the highest level op imports (so each row that has a entry is assigned a grey material)
• Changing in Manage > Object Styles > Model Objects the materials of Generic Models and Hidden lines to a grey material
• Adding in Changing in Manage > Object Styles > Model Objects a new subcategory with a grey material and subsequently select the imported CAD and assign it to the newly created subcategory

All of these gave no result and the imported CAD stayed its original colors. I hope that someone can tell me what I’m doing wrong.

in the AutoCAD file being imported, are the lines, elements,blocks category all drawn BYLAYER?

if the file has overrides that might be the issue

I don't know if they have it or not. I'm not really familiar with AutoCAD and my colleague who is, is not at the office today. If this where the case how can i fix it then?

open the Autocad file,

go to layer manager be sure all Layers are turned on, thawed out and unlocked.

select everything in model space open the properties dialogue box (ctrl+1)

with all selected you should see the categories set to BYLAYER

if they do not try to set them in the properties dialogue box to read Bylayer. usingthe pulldown options per category

Color

Line type

Line weight 

Material

Next time, just import CAD as black and white instead of keeping colors or
inverting colors. Then you can change them to gray freely without editing
the CAD file to Color by Layer. Or even check one box abd make it
halftone.

i tried what you wrote, but it still desn't allow to change color id. I changed all of layer names only one name and layer color. but it doesn't. Do you have any idea?

Hello

I had the same issue. What I did was first exploded the imported CAD drawing. Then under visibility graphics, I changed the line color settings by overriding the default values. Worked like charm.
