Can't add a new row

Hello again,

I've created a room schedule in my template. Now while I was working on a project in that template, I couldn't add a new row. If I want to add rows, I have to create a new schedule and add rows in there and then it works.

Is there any solution?

No idea. You should be able to create a new row, either with "New" button or with Right click > New row. It is hard to tell what might be happening based on this information.

Were you doing anything specific at the time I no longer was available?

I tried to recreate the situation and there was not anything I could to do make it not show up.

Do you have all the latest service packs installed (I always ask this question)? Just want to make sure it is not cause by something else...

I don't think I've installed them, but I already solved it.

I created a new schedule with the same categories and now it works.

I ran into the same problem.. figured that when " itemiize each instance" under sorting is unchecked you can't add rows

When you create new schedule - (on the right side of the dialog box under the schedule name) if you have "Schedule building components" checked, then you can't manually add new rows to the schedule but if you check "Schedule keys" you can manually add the rows. That was the fix for me.

Make sure there isn't a hidden column that is effecting the sorting as well.

 

I could only add a new sheet name at the top of the list but couldn't insert it into the sheet grouping i wanted.

 

Column one was hidden in this persons template and it was where you designated which sheet grouping you wanted to add the new sheet into.

Have you created the schedule in Revit 2017 or have you upgraded your model?

 

Due to slight changes in objects and properties it could affect the schedule abilities...

Done a few tries for you guys...

 

TO me two options in the PP can affect the "new" row button:

  • "itemize every instance" at the bottom of the sorting/ grouping tab
  • embed schedule in the same name tab...

 

Nothing else to my knowledge...

I personally don't understand why Revit will let you add a new data row to a Room schedule (or any Quantities schedule) anyway. I mean, if you want a new row in a Room schedule, you OUGHT to have to create another Room element, right? I create a new row an a Room schedule, and it gets a number and a name, but nothing exists in the project to reflect it. Try making a new row and then clicking on the Highlight in Model tool. You can't, right? Because no room was created. It's dumb.

 

Key schedules? Sure. Add new keys.

Sheet lists? Sure. Adding a row actually creates a new sheet.

Note block? Knock yourself out.

 

Imagine creating a new data row in a View List, for example. It's stupid. Create another view and THEN it will have another row in the schedule. Duh. This logic applies to Room schedules the same as it applies to Door schedules and the like.

 

Right? I mean, am I missing something here?

Key Schedules are not Component Schedules. If you're manually adding blank Key rows and typing component information in to them so as to imitate a Component Schedule, you're BIMming wrong.

Thank you for your replies much appreciated. 

 

The situation was I made a component in a family.

However part of my component wasn't steel which was the focus of my schedule.

So I wanted the schedule to only show only the volume and calculationsfor the steel part.

I didn't want to make a new family again.

So I wanted to add a new row where I could manually enter the volume of the part of the component I wanted.

And then using sorting/grouping to get rid of the previous data on the whole component.

 

I managed to add a new heading which created a new column, so I made this a Volume instead, copied my volume data unto it.

And then put the data I wanted for that component to represent steel

Then deleted the original volume from my schedule.

 

Thanks once again for your explanations much appreciated, I am getting a better understanding that schedule isn't just excel so there are certain restrictions.

Revit schedule doesn't work like that. You need to use Filter to exclude
elements from the schedule if they they do not meet a certain criteria.
For example if you have a generic model schedule and it reports all generic
models in the project, you need to define a criteria for the exclusion. One
way is add a yes/no parameter for the category and filter the schedule to
exclude 'No' elements. Be creative with the choosing the criteria, there
are many ways and one may work better than the others.

Now if you modeled different elements in the same family like you did with
your infamous I beam with a triangle plate, it will be difficult to
separate them in the schedule because they are considered one element in
project environment. You may need to assign different materials for each
pieces and filter by materials. It would be easier if you use nested
family, one family inserted in another.

Just to be clear, a schedule filter identifies criteria for items that will REMAIN in the schedule. Every item that does NOT meet the filter criteria gets excluded.
