Can I limit the view when it is Open to below?

We are trying to stop the distance that we can see blow the floor level that the view is associated with.  We have stairs in an open central area.  So there is nothing blocking the view of the stairs all the way down to the next floor.  We want to have the view of the stairs get cut off after the first few steps.  How can we limit the view to do that?

Have you tried using Underlay or the View Range in the properties box?

I have the underlay off.  I don't want to see what is on the floor below.  Is there a special way to make the underlay limit what can be seen below?

Yes you can use the View range to limit what is seen below. Also when you select Edit on the View Range in the properties box it will give you a short explanation how to use it.

You need to create a plan region in that area where the view range needs to be different than the rest of the view.

I tried the Plan region.  It made no difference. 

Perhaps I need to restate the desired effect.  I want the bottom view to get cut off approximately 4 feet below the lever I am on.  This is because the senior staff here wands the stairs going down to look similar to the cut off stairs going up.  There is nothing blocking the view of the stairs going down.  Adjusting the bottom of the view range has no effect on this.  There is no floor blocking the view.  It is open. the plan region also has had no effect.  This is an open stair, in the middle of an open space.

There seems to be no way to limit how far I can see down.

If I understand correctly, what you want to achieve is what I am showing in this illustration; correct?

If that's the case, for the 2nd floor view, you can create a simple masking region to hide the lower portion of the stairs. Also, turn off underlay for that view.

I think, in Revit, the cut plane of the view range cannot cut the stairs going down, but only going up.

Have you tried Depth Clipping?

Extents > Depth Clipping: there are 3 options: no clip, Clip without line and Clip with line.

@Anonymous Revit stairs aren't affected by the cut plane, view range etc when looking at the floor below. This link  is of the same kind of issue.

You could opt for the solution on the link or use the break line within revit to mask off the bottom of your stairs.

All a bit un-Revit like whenever I have to do something manual IMO
