Calculating Wall Surface Area

Hello Revit Forum,

Can anyone help me in calculating the surface area of a set of walls?  I've scheduled the walls using "Material Area" and have a number, but all Revit seems capable of is giving me the, what I would call, "profile area" of each wall (one side), not the actual surface area of the object (all sides).  Does anyone have a trick for this?  The purpose is to estimate pricing for sandblasting some block walls.

Thank you,

-Rocky

Calculated Parameter=Length * Unconnected Height

maybe I misunderstood you. Are you saying you want to include the thickness profile area as well (e.g. front and sides of the material so to speak)?

times two, plus the thickness times height, times two.  I'm looking for a way to schedule SURFACE AREA.  If you have any information that is helpful in that regard I would appreciate it.

You can get there with Calculated Parameters.

Thank you for the question @Anonymous.

I found the following YouTube video showing a way to calculate wall areas: Finding wall areas on Revit

If the Calculated Parameter suggested by barthbradley and the video don’t answer your question, can you attach a small sample RVT showing the parameters you are working with?

Schedule Parts instead.

Total Combined Areas=(2 * (Length * Height)) + (2 * (Height * Thickness)) + (2 * (Length * Thickness))

...just to be clear, create Parts from Walls first and then Schedule Category "Parts".

Paint all the surface you want to calculate with material(s) and use Material take-off schedule to calculate the Paint areas.

Out of curiosity, how do you think you are going to Paint the back and sides of a Wall Material? Neat trick if can do it.

Maybe I misunderstood.  I see now you're trying to figure the exact amount of wall surface there is to sandblast.  Geez, who'd have thunk one would need a 3D model for this.  Must have been a nightmare to calculate in the olden days.

Do you model all of your sandblasting jobs?
