Byte Range Locking on a single File Server (Down from Multi site GFS)

I have a question that came up recently in a IT user community about running Revit on GFS platforms that have multi-site collaboration functionality with Byte Range Locking for users accessing a file from two or more sites. 

With this company consolidating all of the sites into a single site, the plan is to get rid of this MultiSite licensing with the GFS platform vendor and consolidate all users to a single site File Server. The question being, will Revit work the same way with Byte Range locking?

The only difference is that, all users will be VPN'd into a single site and accessing the Revit files via the LAN.

Byte Range Locking? Multi site GFS? Never heard those terms in relation to Revit. Do you use Revit Server? Or just Work Shared files?
