Building Group with Color Schemes

Using a Townhome as an example here.
Our TH buildings are composed with multiple identical groups and snapped together next to each other. Some jurisdictions require same group to have different colors on them.
We do not want to create 5 identical townhome unit groups just to color them.

Issue:

1. Painting one group, changes ALL groups.

2. Using PARTS and applying difference colors to parts is time consuming and finicky.

3. Preference is to keep one identical group so change and revisions to the model is applied to other 5 buildings simultaneously, minimizing repetitive modeling.

Any other ideas out there to achieve this?
Like Sketchup. One group copied 10 times but can be painted without creating additional groups.

Manually: Select the group >> Override graphics: By Element

Automated: Use Dynamo

Thanks RDAOU,
That is an interesting approach, but it does not work for Architects.

To be more specific, when we submit for Design Review to a Jurisdiction, they want to see what material & color we will be using.
They prefer siding and color variations. Painting materials (eg. 7" Hardiplank - Iron Gray) has tags associated with it and when we paint different sides, those tags change as well, and this makes it very effective. But it fails when we need to apply different siding materials to the same group.
