Blocks in autocad Link file

Hello all,

I received an architectural model in .ifc file format and in .dwg.

I can work better with the .dwg files, so I want to link them in Revit in order to start model the structural elements.

My problem is that all the walls display as blocks (as the example below). Because of that the windows and doors are not easily visible.

Do you have any idea what I could in order to have more visible the openings?

Thank you in advance!

Hi there,

You can put all the blocks in one layer in AutoCAD, and simply play with the layer settings in Revit after linking the file in revit.

You can switch the layer on and off to see other elements.

Kudos

@kunalwadhera  ,

The problem is that the window and the wall are in the same layer. So when I turn off the layer, both of them disappeared.

Try changing the layer

So as per the sample file you have everything as 1 block.

I tried 'IMPORTING' your sample DWG file into revit and exploded it in revit which creates a hatch pattern for the solid block which you can hide to see the background elements.

Please see below image to have a better understanding.

Hope this solves your problem.

Thank you for your solution but I would like to avoid to import and explode the dwg in Revit.

In order to avoid the importing and exporting in revit, you need to explode in autocad and make changes as required 'layer wise'.

Why don't you just bind and ungroup a copy of it, and work with that one.

If I linked in CAD file, I usually override the CAD link by element and change the transparency to 50% or less. That way any solid hatch will display as soft gray fill.
