Best Practice for Tapered Roof or Floor

Below is a picture of a couple scenarios for tapered roofs that I run into a lot.  Roof 1 could also be the basis for an exterior floor deck section.  Can anyone tell me the way this is typically accomplished in Revit.  I would really appreciate some guidance.

There are several ways.  

 

- One is:  Flat roof with variable thickness.  Edit sub elements to add slope.

Ditto. The way Toan describes as #1 is the best approach. Same approach we use for decking with elastomeric buildups. This way we can accurately schedule materials volume.

I must have missed one of your steps but I can't seem to generate the same effect you did.  That picture of yours is exactly what I'd like to do.

 

Any thoughts?

So jealous. 🙂  Wonder what I'm doing wrong.  It's worth noting I'm also not seeing the layers.  Hmmm...

Accepted solution

Did you draw the roof with slopes?  It must be a flat roof, no edge defined slopes, no slope arrows whatsoever.  Then you select the roof and Modify Sub Elements from the ribbon.

To show the layers, turn on Section box and stretch it to cut through the roof.

You, my friend, have shown me the light.  Thank you so much.  Got a big project where this will be the go-to approach. I was oversimplifying the process.

Aha!! You just solved my problem as well-- thank you! I needed two roof types-- one where the structure and the insulation taper, and one where just the insulation tapers and the structure remains flat. Adding the variable layer solved it for me-- thanks again!!
