Backup folder of linked files

Hi all,

do you know any particular reason WHY Revit creates backup folders of LINKED MODELS?

They've not been modified and not opened, and they only are used as reference in the Main model.

I tried looking around the internet, but couldn't find any answer.

Cheers,

It's because they have been made into Central files.  Note that even unopened links could potentially have changes made to them.  If you share coordinates with a linked file, it will update that file, even if unopened.  You can verify this by looking at the date modified column.

Hi Tim,

I also thought that, but it's not the case. You see, there hasn't been any update location, nor any changes in the central file "modified" date. But still, the backup file has been created, hence my question. (I even check if any of design group were opening the files without telling me, but that's not the case).

Any other thoughts?

That happens automatically when the linked models are workshare models. The backup folder will be created regardless if you apply changes or not.

Hi @RDAOU ,

I see that, but still can't understand why some linked files are "backup" and others not. It's the inconsistency that made me questioning. You said "only workshared files will have backup files". Well, of a folder of central models, only a few created a backup folder. I guess it's when one of user "reads" the information. Still annoying, though, will like to keep the folder tidy! 😛
