Architectural model not binding into MEP model

Hi,
I have an architectural model not binding into MEP model, it takes ages loading as if it is binding and then cuts off around 70%.

Any suggestions?

Hi @Anonymous,

try to bind an new file with a small portion of the MEP systems. This is to check that the import is working.

Hi Nicola,

It's actually the architectural model that I am linking in to the MEP model. Does that make any difference?

Technically it shouldn't make a different which one you bind to the other.

However, and this is a BIG however, most Architectural models tend to be overloaded with complex model details, geometry constraints, and whatnots. Binding it into another file has a risk of something will break. If you can keep it as a link then keep it as a link.

If for some reason, binding is the only option, open the Architectural model with Audit, remove all CAD links that are irrelevant, purge it clean, and save it to a new file. Bind that new file.

totally agree with @ToanDN, I confirm that any model can be bind into any other one.

Since Architectural models are usually bigger and heavier I will bind file to them instead of viceversa.

Can you name one advantage of binding over simply sending separate models?

I can name a few disadvantages. Just can't think of one advantage.

We have an MEP model which we are responsible for. However we are also responsible for some of the room from an architectural point of view. The architect has a model and I would be looking to bind the architects in to our MEP model and make changes to our areas. Is there an easier way to do this?

Keep the models as links, all the time. Every discipline a link. That helps to separate responsibilities as well.

If you have some architectural work to do, in addition to your MEP work, create a model for each discipline, and then link everything. It is not a good idea to bind the architects' model because a model is supposed to be a living document, that changes every week. If you bind it, how is that model going to update? And how are you going to separate responsibilities and avoid duplication of elements? If you have some architectural work, create a model for that, in which you link the architect's model. It would work in the same way as an interior design model. Create another model (one or more) for your MEP disciplines.
