Applying a view template created from current view

When I create a view template from a current view, the "apply" option is grayed out, meaning when I close the view template dialogue after creating and editing the view template, the template I just created from the current view is not applied to the view.  I have to then go to properties and select the view template to apply it.  This seems like something you should be able to do within the "create view template from current,"  as you would usually want to apply a template you are creating from a view to that view.  Am I missing something or is this not an option?

Technically, the view template does not yet exist as a template for you to apply it to your view. It needs to be saved first.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.
