Apply Revit materials to DWG import in Revit family

Hello,

I have been trying to apply Revit materials to a DWG import in Revit family, but no success so far. I went to Manage- Object Styles- Imported Objects but the object that I want to add materiality to is not there even though it should be as it is a dwg imported in a family.

Anyone has any ideas? Why my object is not there? The name of the family is roof and structure as you can see in the printscreen.

Query the dwg and verify what layer the element is on.

Blecchhh. My least favorite thing.

In the DWG make sure that you have objects in layers. I would create layers on the basis of material

When you bring in your DWG, go to Manage>>Object Styles. There under the Imported Objects tab, you should see your layers.

When you click in Material you will be taken to the Material Editor. There you can create and modify materials and apply them as well.

My next question - why are you doing this to yourself? The connect between Revit and other CAD tools is distasteful at best. You would be doing yourself a kindness by doing everything you need in Revit.

I have tried every single file in 'imports in family' and nothing changed..

Again, this is my least favorite thing to do. Can you see your layers under Imports In Family? Can you share a screen shot, or better still, a file?

I have enclosed here the DWG file. I can see some of the layers in 'imported objects' but even if I am attributing a material is not showing in renders.

I went into your roof and changed the elements to layers other than 0...loaded into a project and here is what happened when I rendered it.

This is exactly how it looks for me as well. Whatever material I choose it looks like clay and I would like it to be cooper steel. Thank you for your reply.

Change the DWG's mesh properties to BYLAYER and put on a new layer such as "Mesh" (they currently are on layer 0). Export DWG into Revit and you should be able to identify and control properties through Object Styles>Imported Objects.

The problem started from the dwg. I managed to render it now. Thanks to everyone!
