Hello all,
i will elaborate on this one because i have tried to search for a solution but couldn´t find answer anywhere. I will duplicate my case here, so someone could confirm my findings or tell me some solution to this problem.
So here it goes:
I have made two sample projects using Default_M_ENG template from preinstalled revit template files.
One project - named "host file" is for my host project other one "linked file" is for linked project.
I have created very simple sections in each project and then linked the "linked file" into host file. Then in the "section 1" view of the host file i specified for rvt link display "by linked view option"
In the host file there is an anottation text "example" to be shown in the host file. If i leave it that way, everything works great and the text shows as it is supposed in the host section view.
The problem starts when i try to import a cad file, in my case called "dwg_import", into the linked view with the "current view only" settings.
When then i reload the linked file and try to see the annotation text "example" and the cad link itself, i am unable to see it.
The only solution which i have found for this to work is, when i either turn off the far clipping offset, or if i move the extents of the host section in that way, tha it will cross the basic plane as defined by the internal origin.
So the problem here starts, if i want to show a linked view from the revit linked file by using the "by linked view" option, which has a dwg. file linked to it, but i don´t want the extents of my section view in host file to be so far, that it crosses internal origin, then i am actually unable to see the dwg. or annotations in my host file.
I have made sure the following applies:
- both models have same coordination system and coordinates
- linked model is linked by "internal origin to internal origin" option
- section view in host model "encapsulates" the whole extents of the section view in linked model
- section view in host model and linked model is parallel
- it is a same type of view (linking section to section)
- crop regions and cropping are turned off
- depth clipping settings "clip without line" doesn´t help
- all of the visibility you can think of as model, annotation, phasing, worksets etc. etc. is turned on
I am using revit 2020.2.
My conclusion to this is as follows:
- if i link/import a cad/dwg. file into the revit using "current view only" settings the revit doesn´t place the linked cad file into the curent view´s plane as defined by the section line in floor plan (as i would expect), but it rather places it to the plane defined by the internal origin. Is it true? And if so, is there a way around this or it is just not possible.
Interestingly enough the same applies when the section is rotated to the internal origin axes (still has to cross internal origin plane to show dwg. file). And looks like for floor plans this behaviour is not present.
I attach sample projects and video demonstrating the issue.
