Aligned Dimension in inclined wall

I am following a book and got stuck on dimensioning a wall that is angled.  The book instructs me to click Align Dimensions and have Individual References selected in the options.  Hovering over the inner face of the brock wall I'm meant to Tab to get a blue grip but nothing appears.  The only thing that happens is the blue dotted line moves between faces of the materials in the wall.  Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks.

It has to do with the location of your cursor while pressing tab. There is some "fuzz" factor around the cursor where tabbing will cycle through the different selection candidates near the cursor. If you cursor is not close to the intersection where the angel wall is you will not be able to tab to the "point".  It is also possible you are just not seeing it, sometimes the point is very small and gets lost in the lines of the walls. it depends on zoom level line thickness and the display resolution. You can watch the status bar (lower left of the Revit window) to see exactly what is currently highlighted while pressing tab. So you might not see the highlighted "point" in the canvas, but the status bar will verbally describe you are on it.

When you place an align dimension from a line to a point, always start from the line, then end at the point. If you can post a screenshot of what you are trying to dimension then there maybe clearer answers.

Hello @ToanDN I would like to have this dimension without having to draw this reference lines.

Steps:

- draw a temporary line perpendicular to the top rail

- place a dimension picking that line first then a corner point of the rail

- edit the dimension witness and pick the second corner point of the rail

- delete the temporary line
