You can easily model it as a Railing Baluster or a railing panel

You should be able to do that with one baluster in the middle and then use a panel in between. Can have a better look at it later.

If change in type properties the lenght with the depth doesn't change. 

To put the shape inside the panel have to use  a new family type'

Edit the existing square baluster and you get something similar to your photo

For this I would use some Generic model dowloaded in internet 😉
