Adaptive component option missing from revit 2016

Hi!

I'm using the student version of Revit 2016 and have created nine reference points in a new family conceptual massing file.  I am trying to create an adaptive panel as seen in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POND315utnY  He creates the panel at 5:45.  

But unlike on his screen, I have no adaptive component option.  The Form tab and the Host tab on my screen are right next to each other.  There simply is no adaptive component tab at all.  

Is there something I need to download? Is is simply not available to students?  I've tried repairing Revit already.  When I go to the control panel programs and into 'Revit content libraries 2016' and select "add or remove features", the only content I see available are other languages and the metric system option.  There doesn't seem to be anything about  adaptive components or families or generic components or anything like that.

You need to create a new family "Generic Model Adaptive" then create the points as in the video and select them. Then you will need the Make Adaptive option...

Im having the exact same problem with Revit 2016 Student.

The adaptive template file is  used but still no adaptiv buttom.

Have tried for hours to figure out whats wrong and have seen all youtubes on Adaptive components. Nothing seems to work.

Most likely, you are using the "mass" template, which does not have the button to "make adaptive" a reference point. If you read this thread carefully from the beginning, you will notice that this was the cause of the problem.

I think I use the right template. At least if its the one called "Metric Generic Model Adaptiv"
The thing is that if I place some reference points and select them the "Make Adaptive" buttom shows up. But if I model a solid by extrusion Im not able to (like shown in different tutorials) to select the points and turn them into adaptive.

What you described is the correct behavior. You can only make points created from Point tool adaptive, not vertices of a form or a divided path. And that is all you need to create an adaptive family.

Tick 3D Snapping box when you draw the reference lines to enable points.  Then you can select those points to make them adaptive.

The reason why I wanted to be able to make the points in the extrusion parametric was because my aim is to make a family by extrusion with adaptive insertion points.

The familiy is basically a triangular prism with a sloped top standing on a flat horisontal plane where the z1 is zero, z2 is half the distance between point 1 and point 2 and the z3 is half the distance between point 2 and point 3.

I thought I could make a extrusion and then select the z points and then give them parametric values. The way I understand it now, this is not possible.

It is possible if you simply revise your workflow.  Create the points and make them adaptive, create a line thru each two points (for flat segments) or spline thru 3 or more points (for curved segments), create form from those lines/splines.  Now your form is adaptive.
