Anytime I try and open a 3d view, my revit just decides to prompt me with a  ( not responding) prompt and i am unable to use the app unless i close out or wait for an obscene ammount of time.

Sometimes views become corrupt. Try creating a new view and if it behaves, delete the misbehaving one.

Most of the cases, if the 3D view becomes corrupt or issue opening, it has to do with a linked (or imported) dwg has large coordinates.

Attach a Viewtemplate to 3D views and turn off Import categories by default.

Turning a import off in the 3D view doesn't always correct the "corrupt issue" and the view has to be re-created.
