Revit MCP Server - Tech Preview Launch!

Today we're launching two new MCP servers for Revit as Tech Previews! Check out the documentation here. You can use these to modify Revit models with AI.

We already have Read-tools available - being added to our MCP ecosystem are "Trusted-Write" and "Experimental" MCP Servers. All these servers let you use agents with the AI tool of your choice, not a choice forced on you.

"Trusted-Write" gives you a small set of tools and lets you review every change an agent makes to a model element. You will know what the AI did.

"Experimental" opens more modification and creation capabilities. It's a use-at-your-own-risk type situation, with a wider breadth of capabilities than Trusted-Write.

They stack together. Read-tools are standalone, Trusted-Write includes Read-tools, and Experimental includes both Trusted-Write and Read-tools.

This is just the beginning. We'll keep adding and updating tools and capabilities over time based on your feedback. We're starting here to let you help shape the technology with us. Our tools will surface first in "Experimental," and later we'll move them over to "Trusted-Write." We'll also keep improving our review capabilities. AI needs human oversight, and we want you to always be able to trust what it did and stay in control of it.

With that said…

A lot of AEC software companies make you "book a demo" just to see what they have. You talk to a salesperson, sit through a demo they control, and hand over your information before you've even seen the product.

I'm proud that Autodesk works differently. We offer free trials. You download it today, and act like a subscriber before you pay. I'm proud Autodesk makes that possible.

We go further than that too: we give you an Ideas website (where you can contribute to conversations with the best of the internet), we publish a public roadmap on what we are working on, we run a public Beta Program that anyone can join, so you can see what we're building and use it yourself. How many AEC software companies do those things?

Thank you for shipping this as three stacked tiers with review built in, that is the structure a BIM lead can sign off on. A few things I can contribute from the coordination side, where most of my week goes:

1. A test set of coordinator questions. Twenty questions against the Revit sample project with expected answers: links unloaded or off shared coordinates, elements with an empty BEP-required parameter per category, warnings per view grouped by type, workset membership, duplicates. I already run these as fixed tools, turning them into a reusable check list for Read and Trusted-Write is a small job, and it would let you regression-test every drop.

2. An evidence format. What a coordinator hands to a client is not "the agent said so" but rule, element ids, view, image. I can propose a response structure for Read and Trusted-Write that attaches straight to an ACC issue without manual reshaping.

3. Tool schema alignment for Assistant Builder. If you publish a convention for tool names, arguments, units and pagination, third-party servers can sit next to the official ones without rewrites. I would align mine first and be a live example of a partner agent for the Marketplace path.

4. A test bed. A real workshared model with links on 2026 and 2027, every Tech Preview build run and reported here: what it answered, where it went wrong, how long it took.
