Revit Macro IDE does not open when clicking Macro edit

I can create a module but, when trying to open Revit Macro IDE by clicking edit nothing happens.

Is there any reason why ? Can I manually start it externally from Revit ?

Sorry, no idea. A reason there probably is. However, this forum is for discussing pure Revit API programming issues. I'm afraid the problem you describe sounds more like an installation or end user issue, so you might have better luck discussing it in the non-API forum.

I assume you have tried restarting the computer and revit?

Maybe try making another module and trying again (although I assume you have probably tried that too.)

Also, try starting a new project, or opening a project, and see if a document level macro will edit.

If not of that helps, then I'm with Jeremy.   It must be an installation issue.

I am now having the same issue. The IDE will not open when creating a new Module/Macro or when attempting to edit an existing one. Existing macros run fine.

This was working last week and I have made no changes (that I am aware of) to the system. This is also not limited to one Revit version. I am having this issue on all versions 2017-2021.

I installed Revit 2022 and the IDE opened once. (4.2.0 build 8795)
I then tried Revit 2021 with no success, after which it would no longer open in 2022.
This has to be an issue with SharpDevelop. Possibly due to a windows update?

I still do not know why it is now doing this, but have found a workaround that seems to work most of the time:

  1. Restart Computer
  2. First open Revit 2020
    1. Immediately open the macro manager (before opening a project)
    2. Edit a Module or Macro (opens SDA version 4.2.0 build 8783)
  3. In Revit 2021 or newer
    1.  Open the macro manager
    2. Edit a macro (should now be able to open SDA, this time with version 4.2.0 build 8795)

Oddly enough, this is a similar workaround for the Windows Form Designer issue (described on other threads). Also, it appears that all Revit version 2017-2020 all shipped with SDA 4.2.0 build 8783, while 2021 and newer were build 8795. Although I have not tested it I suspect that this will also work as long as you first launch SDA from one of the Revit versions 2017-2020.

I am having the same problem,  we just upgraded from 2019 to 2021,  macro manager will not create a macro and will not open in edit mode.   Of course the IT department deleted all earlier versions of Revit,  so the workaround does not apply,   Please Help!
