Hi All,
Is it possible to batch open Revit files (eg.rfa's) and invoke a set of commands?

I posed this ? a few years ago to Autodesk and the answer then was no. Maybe api or python could do later.

This what i am trying to do:

Batch open quite a few families,  hide the reference planes/lines, set the 3D view and then a Zoom fit the file

(doesn't have to be 3D).

There may be a utility that can do this...not too sure...tried CTC software...no go.

Currently the family image and the reference planes take up the library view image all you can view are the ref.planes. "AWFUL". Tried also in W11 explorer...same thing.

Leaving the image like this for others to figure out what the image is about i think is not good practice.

unless there are good Naming Conventions at hand.

Can this be done folks. Maybe Python?

Dear Chris,

Happy new year to you. Careful, you made your entire text bold. That may be considered impolite.

Q: Is it possible to batch open Revit files (eg.rfa's) and invoke a set of commands?

A: Yes. It is, and it always has been. Sorry that you picked up the wrong answer sometime in the past. There are many ways to achieve this. The Building Coder has discussed several of them, e.g., here:

The blog has also explored making use of Journal files for such purposes; check out the categories on "Batch" and "Journal":

You can also use Revit-agnostic tools such as Windows automation utilities for some cases. Python is certainly also an option.

Lots of options. Good luck and have fun!

Jeremy
