Dear Ning,

Thank you for your query.

This is not strictly an API issue, or even un-strictly, so I should really ask to have it moved to a Revit support forum instead.

Still, just for you, I will happily take a look at it anyway.

Before I submit it to the development team, though, can you please confirm whether you have tested this in Revit 2016 yet?

Revit 2016 has introduced significantly improved support for interacting with linked files, both for a UI and an API point of view, so the chances are pretty good that this has now been resolved as well.

If not, I'll definitely pass it on to the development team for you.

Thank you!

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Jeremy

thanks Jeremy for your suggestion.

i did a quick test in 2016 w/o any luck, will be great if you can pass it on to develop team, if this issue can be solved then it's going to change entire workflow -> no need of binding these multiple repeated linked instances.

in short, in order for schedule in host file to report REAL level or location of elements from linked file, some kind of global instance parameter needs to be added into that schedule which can be manually or automatically filled in, i thought about Project Information or even Extensible Storage for each link instance, but really don't know if it's doable, that's why i post this question here to get confirmation if it's possible by using API.

Cheers,
Ning

Dear Ning,

Thank you for confirming on Revit 2016.

Sorry to hear that does not help.

I will pass it on to the development team.

Cheers,

Dear Ning,

I submitted a new case REVIT-65222 [door schedule reports incorrect level from linked file] about this for the development team to take a look at.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Jeremy

thanks Jeremy for your great help!

will be very appreciated if they can confirm if it's doable using API or other methods, currently we have a big monster project using multiple link instances approach and binding will be the last option if no other solution or workaround.

Cheers,
Ning

Dear Ning,

Thank you for your appreciation.

My pleasure entirely 🙂

Unfortunately, the fix is not immediately available.

The development team updated the issue REVIT-65222 [door schedule reports incorrect level from linked file] as follows:

Currently when including linked RVT models in a schedule the level name(s) from the link will be used.

Currently Revit is unable to:

  • Replace the level name in the RVT link with the level name in the host document
  • Understand the placement of the RVT link in relation to a host level

This requested behavior would be considered a functionality request.

We are potentially looking into some related improvements around levels, groups and RVT links in the following issues related to other internal

development:

  • REVIT-60141
  • REVIT-64819
  • REVIT-64821

REVIT-65222 has therefore been closed as 'Works As Expected'.

So, as said, I am sorry to say that the fix is not immediately available.

Please make a note of the new issue numbers for future reference.

If you have a really strong business case to drive this forward, please let us know!

Thank you!

Meanwhile, I am glad to hear that you have ideas for alternative approaches.

I would love to hear how it goes with those.

Thank you again!

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Jeremy
