Invalid column unit type in Revit 2023 by using LoadFamily

Hi,

I'm encountering an issue while using the Load Family function.

In my folder, there are two files sharing the same name: one is the family file (rfa), and the other is a "Type Catalog" file exported from the family file as a txt file. When I utilize Load Family to import the family, it appears to import this txt file simultaneously. Consequently, when there's a formatting error within the txt file, the import result becomes false.

I've come to understand that this reported error might stem from unit database modifications post version 2021 (my txt file hasn't been updated to version 2023 and remains unchanged since 2018).

However, I'm unsure why it automatically attempts to incorporate the information from the txt file. Is there a specific API available to exert control over this process and prevent it from automatically reading the identically named txt file?

I truly appreciate any guidance or assistance you can provide on this matter. Thank you very much for your time and support.

Best Regards,

Binghui

I suggest you learn about how to use a family type catalog:

Maybe you have no need for the TXT file at all. In that case, you could simply delete it. That might be the simplest solution. Your call.

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for your reply and the information!

But in our company there are thousands of such files which were saved by previous coworkers. It will take a long time to go through the internal cleanup to determine which txt can be deleted.

Is there any other way to avoid loading these txts when using loadfamily?

I have not the slightest idea. That is a UI question. I would suggest trying to fix the broken TXT. Maybe you can do so by loading it into the family editor and saving an updated version of the RFA.
