Extensible Storage in a worksharing environment; Any Tips?

My addon's make heavy use of the extensible storage API for custom manufacturing data and intelligent updating (I've pretty much got my own parametric constraint layer running in the background that kicks in whenever one of "my" elements is modified)
Up untill now I've explicitly stated to my users that worksharing is not supported as I've not even considered this functionality within my storage and dynamic update systems and I'm sure that things will get pretty messed up. I've not had much experience with worksharing from a user's point of view so it is new territory for me. My current project will benefit greatly if I'm able to successfully support worksharing. So I've been doing some preliminary testing.
An interesting behaviour that I've found is that the same DataStorage element can be updated in several different local files concurrently without Revit giving any warning as it usually does when the user manually edits a visible element that someone else has already modified. This results in the other files becomming out-of synch and marked as invalid once one of the files is synchonised.
This is a big concern for me and I'll be investigating further to see what I can do to manage this but I would greatly appreciate input from anyone that has experience with this and has some tips they can share.
