Can I come around the missing third party updater message?

Hi all,

I have made an internal addin in which I have implemented an iUpdater - it works greate!

Now the problem is that we're collaborating with other companies that don't have our addin.

They get an missing third party updater error when they open the models we're collaborating on.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get around this - so that we can still have an internal AddIn with an iUpdater, and still collaborate with others in the same model, without them having our addin?

Thanks in advance
Best regards
Niclas

Hi @jeremy_tammik

Thanks for your reply!

Just to make sure I understand your references.

To deal with my case, I should remove the reference to the updater that I have implemented and then apply an optional implementation of my iUpdater?

Best regards

Niclas

I don't really know what the best approach is. Please let us know how you end up solving this. Thank you!

Hi Jeremy

I'm still working on a solution - your links have got me on my way, but I'm not quite there yet.

The model I have the problem with is on BIM360, so I can't quite follow your links - but they work for local central files!

I'll return when I, hopefully, have an answer that others can use 🙂

Best regards

Thank you for your appreciation and glad it helped. On BIM360, I think the procedure is exactly the same: download the model, remove the updater reference, resave and reupload. You just need to use the APS functionality to download and upload, instead of the simple native Windows desktop .NET API on local files.

Thanks 🙂
Greate! I'll give it a try.

Do you by any chance know if I download the model and the overwrite it, will I have to link it into other models again, or if the other models can recognize the model by it's name, and then remember the link connections?

I think the relationships are maintained, the identity is retained, it is just a new version of the existing file, assuming you do it right. 🙂
