Yeah, I'm going to need a little more detail than "due to a system update" on why I need to change my username. It looks like a phishing email.

I received the same email, and am not sure what the purpose is.

Looks like this

Hello,

We're reaching out because your Autodesk Community username needs to be changed due to a system update.

To maintain access to your Autodesk Community, log into your account at profile.autodesk.com and follow the steps to change your username by Friday 12 May.

Thanks,
The Autodesk Community Team

Has a button below that appears to go to this forum.

Seriously feels like someone trying to steal my login credentials.

I received the same thing today.  It does appear that the email itself as well as the included links originated from Autodesk, but it's odd that it offers no additional information as to what exact username changes are necessary (i.e. complexity, etc.).
At the very least, it's a poor attempt at communication on the part of Autodesk.

Well, after going into profile settings I am unable to use my current username (save button is greyed out). But a single character change appears to be allowed (did not try saving). Something is definitely not right.

Ditto with the same concerns about theft of login information.

@ACADuser , the symptom you're describing seems quite typical for such an account change.  Unless you actually make a "change"  to your username the save button would most likely be grayed out, so I don't see anything unusual about that specific symptom.

@jconaway

So, they should add a hyphen ?

Typical Autodesk non-explanatory emails.  I remember getting some that just said...."testing".....

Since you have until May 12, I would wait and see if there are follow up emails and if Autodesk will actually post something about on their site.

I have the same issue.  I just posted this on another thread about the same issue.  I'm concerned that this is a duplicate username issue.  Whatever the update entails, it requires there are unique usernames.  I've had my account since 2006 but in 2014 another account was established using the same username.  Am I being asked to change but not the new account?

I did a search and there are several users with the same username as mine. Just wondering who to contact regarding this. I would like to keep my username if at all possible.

Now there's someone I haven't seen here in ages!  pendean good to see you again!  I'm in the same boat as everybody.  Suspected it was phishing email or something but went ahead and changed it due to years ago I recall Autodesk did something similar and attempted to merge usernames.  Suspect this current issue is related to that still.  Odd part about this though is my old username was "ampster" but now it is "ampster40".  The forum believes I am not logged in by displaying the Sign In button but I have found that somehow this side of things my username did not update and is still "ampster".  just another 2 cents worth to this current issue.

@ampster40 Howdy!

I have to agree with you, this entire issue still looks and smells funny, even with all the attempts at "answering everyone's questions".

signed in at home and on this end it appears my username is ampster40, let's see if this post can confirm that:

edit; fail.

But within my profile it does show ampster40 as the current name.

Autodesk?!?!?  Somebody forget to press the sync button?!??

@TexasAPS, that seems like a reasonable solution.

I also find the same issue but now I have a solution so thank you for this effort.

My latest issue is that my autodesk has issues logging me in under this new name.

Well, well, look who's back after ages! Good to see you again, Pendean! I'm pretty much in the same boat as everyone else here. Initially, I thought it might be a phishing email or something fishy, but I decided to change it anyway. I remembered Autodesk did something similar years ago when they attempted to merge usernames. I suspect this current issue might be related to that old change. What's odd, though, is that my old username was "ampster," but now it's "ampster40." The forum seems to think I'm not logged in, as it keeps displaying the Sign In button. But, interestingly, my username on this side of things still shows up as "ampster." Just adding my two cents to the current issue!
