Import a obj file with texture

Hi,

I created a box and baked texture in 3ds Max 2017.

Then, I exported it as obj file with the material.

When I imported the obj file in 3ds Max 2017, Maya 2017 and 3D builder, I could see the box with texture.

3dsmax.PNG

However, when I imported the obj file in ReMake, I could not see the box with texture.

Although there is the box in ReMake, it was transparency and no texture.

How to import mesh geometry with texture in ReMake?

Thanks,

makoo

Hi Makoo,
ReMake will automatically import the texture as well but only if it is in the same folder as the .OBJ
If this is the case and you still see no texture , please send us the .obj file along with the .mtl and .png file @ tatjana.dzambazova@autodesk.com
Thx
T

PS: i just saw the zip file you send, we will test and let you know

Hi Tatjana,

Thank you for replying.

There are the obj, mtl and jpg files in same folder.

Because I attached my file as box.zip in first post, could you check it?

I'm waiting your test result.

Thanks,

makoo

Hi Makoo,

The problem is with the material file (*.mtl file) which specifies material properties. If you open it in a text editor like notepad and change the line 'Tr 1.0' to 'Tr 0.0' (or completely delete that line), save the file and then re-import the obj into ReMake, the texture will be visible.

Note:

'Tr' is transparency and a value of 1.0 means fully transparent and 0.0 means fully opaque.

Hope this helps.

Hi Tatjana, Karthik,

I could import InfraWorks 360 data to ReMake by your help.

Thank you so much.

makoo

I created a model in InfraWorks 360.

01.png

I exported it to fbx file. Then I imported it to 3ds Max.

I baked the texture in 3ds Max and exported it to obj file.

I imported it ReMake. I got the model with the texture!

Hi,
I am trying to import a scan into Remake, but the original file was a PLY with colour mapping so i could not import it directly,
After seeing the forum I used blender to create a UV map and export as OBJ as Remake should now import the file correctly.
I am looking to touch up the model and make it suitable for 3D printing in sandstone with shapways.

I managed to import an obj with a texture i made in meshlab however the texture map from mesh lab was not very good.
The one i created in blender looks alot better but i cannot get remake to load the texture upon import, any help would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

Kind regards,
Bonne

Hi Bonne,

It's like an issue with the material file (*.mtl). Can you attach the *.mtl file (that was generated along with the *.obj file created in blender) so i can take a look.

Thanks.

Bonne

(ps:this happend when i tried to upload the MTL file, i have zipped it now)

  • An Unexpected Error has occurred.
  • The file prossesed1.mtl does not have a valid extension for an attachment and has been removed.

This keeps happening to me as well. I export form 3ds Max Design 2015. It re-imports back to Max fine, but no textures in Remake. It is all in  a single folder and I got rid of the transparency line in the mtl file.

I have the same problem with an obj file from dronedeploy.

All files are in one folder and the mtl file doesn't have the "tr" parameter.

Can anyone help?

Hi @Anonymous,

We are sorry that you are encountering this problem. May i confirm with you that the OBJ. file is created from Maya2017 and unable to open on ReMake?
