Local Processing

Local Processing

I am extremely disappointed that Recap Photo does not allow local processing line the former Remake program. I have invested heavily in my high-end computer system and it erks me that I have to pay you to process files that I can process myself. I suggest that you reinstate local processing.

I agree with your opinion.
With local processing alone, you will lose a lot of customers.
I think that Autodesk will lose friends gathered in past software, 123Catch, memento.

Any update on this. For client security reasons I cannot upload any files to the cloud. Is there a bata I can get on?

No news yet, although there are several other identical or nearly identical Ideas already posted.

Note that any kind of return to local processing would likely require nVidia Quadro/Tesla/etc. GPUs and be limited to Win-users only (if Mac is switching to all-AMD GPUs, it also removes dual-boot solutions for them).

You'll have to investigate third-party applications for the time being.

@dgorsman I've got all the power I need.

Intel i9 7980xe (18core)

GTX 1080ti 11gb

64GB 2933mz ram

1TB M.2 PCI SSD

1TB sata SSD

All Using Pix4d, I did a 120 photo project in about 30m. I just finished running my largest project ever (4300 photos from a Phantom 4 pro 20mp images) took about 30hours to process.

It's mostly a security issue for me. I have to have this tower air-gapped from any network and transfer files hand to hand on supplied USB drives.

Nice... I'd *love* to have something like that given I do some CPU-based rendering...  Many don't have that kind of desktop hardware though, and can't afford to have their computer down for a day and half or longer.  However most do have some server architecture already available as a SQL Server host or render farm.  And it's easier to convert cloud-centric programs to run on a server than it is to a desktop OS.

One other problem with a completely air-gapped system is licensing.  Not sure if you'd be able to pull from a network licensing service with those restrictions, and there wouldn't be a completely stand-alone license available.  So ReCap is likely not going to meet your needs, even if they do make a local version.

ReCap...? does it work? I can't do any thing with it.

Another vote for local processing options.

Another vote for local processing options.  Competition software provides this ability.

It is an easy business case to justify post processing point cloud data on a high end system used by the employees that will be trained to collect field data.  Also, we have firewalls which prevent transmitting data outside of our network.  What makes more sense Autodesk, 10 users all with high end CAD systems post processing data and not getting other work done, or one very high end CAD system which performs this task while we work on other tasks?

We are a very large company with hundreds of employees using autodesk products. I will recommend migration to other software allowing local processing.

there are great pieces of similar software out there/
