Filter Classified Points in Recap

Filter Classified Points in Recap

I would like to filter classified point cloud data in Recap so that a point cloud containing only ground data can be brought into C3D. C3D's filter method would be sufficient if the data is not classified but is not desirable when the data can be filtered. This was possible in C3D 2017 but with updates to software that functionality has gone away and we need a better way to filter the point cloud data. There is as way using "MAPCREATEPCSURFACE" to filter the data and create a DEM file to create a surface but when I do that the surface doesn't lay on the DEM which is frustrating. The "MAPCREATEPCSURFACE" work around adds another step to the workflow when it should be an included function.

I agree wholeheartedly, almost every government entities that produced aerial LiDAR tiles has an integrated classification. Having to process the raw point clouds in LAStools or CloudCompare prior to conversion in Recap is a clutch, but it's not a streamlined workflow.

Alternatively, this feature would help immensely to manage the InfraWorks classification output (like segmenting building to be used in Revit or other destinations). A great potential indeed!!

You can use this freeware to go straight from .LAS/.LAZ files to a Civil3D TinSurface and designate you only want to use Class 2 (Ground).  Contains other handy tools to list lidar specs and draw the tiles, etc.

That's a cool app, thanks!

Hi, we are implementing classification visualization in ReCap 2023.1 Beta.

We also add the ability to hide/show certain classification and then user can export it as unified project to filter the hidden classifications.

Please refer to https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/recap-forum/recap-2023-1-beta-participation/td-p/11319694 for instruction to download the Beta build.

We are looking forward to your feedback.
