Unable to set georeferences on a point cloud in Recap Pro

Hi,

I would like to georeference a point cloud setting the targets with kwon coordinates, it's very simple to do it, selecting the targets and giving the localisation coordinates but then when I'm back to the project, totally wrong coordinates are displayed.

I used recap 2023.1, imported point cloud is an E57 with 600 scans.

The coordinate format is right.

I use to do it easily in the previous version of recap pro, I don't understand what's wrong.

Does someone have an idea?

Thank you for your help!

It's unusual that georeferencing with known coordinates in ReCap Pro 2023.1 results in wrong coordinates displayed in your project. Here are some troubleshooting steps to investigate the issue:

1. Verification:

  • Coordinate System Match: Double-check that the coordinate system you're entering for the targets matches the coordinate system of the point cloud itself. Mismatched systems can lead to incorrect location calculations.
  • Target Selection and Values: Ensure you're selecting the correct targets and entering their known coordinates accurately. Typos or mistakes in these values can significantly affect the georeferencing results.

2. ReCap Pro Settings:

  • Unit System: Verify that the unit system settings in ReCap Pro are consistent with the coordinate system you're using. For example, if your coordinates are in meters, ensure ReCap Pro is set to meters as well.

3. Project Settings:

  • Registration Settings: In some cases, incorrect project registration settings might cause issues with georeferencing. Review your registration settings and ensure they align with your intended workflow.

4. Software Glitch:

  • While less likely, there might be a temporary glitch with ReCap Pro 2023.1. Consider these options:
    • Software Update: Check for any available updates to ReCap Pro. Installing the latest version might resolve the issue if it's a known bug.
    • Project Backup: Create a backup of your project before attempting further troubleshooting steps.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Re-verify Coordinate Systems: Double-check the coordinate system of the point cloud and the coordinates you're entering for the targets. Ensure they are compatible.
  2. Review Target Selection: Confirm that you're selecting the correct targets in the point cloud and entering their known coordinates without errors.
  3. Check Unit System: Verify that ReCap Pro's unit system matches the coordinate system you're using.
  4. Examine Registration Settings: Review your project's registration settings to ensure they don't interfere with georeferencing.
  5. Update Software (Optional): If available, install the latest update for ReCap Pro 2023.1.
  6. Try a Smaller Dataset (Optional): If the issue persists, consider testing georeferencing with a smaller subset of scans from the E57 file to isolate any potential problems with the full dataset.

Additional Tips:

  • Consult the ReCap Pro documentation for detailed instructions on georeferencing with known coordinates.
  • Search online forums or communities for ReCap Pro users. You might find similar cases and solutions reported by others.
  • Consider contacting Autodesk support for ReCap Pro if none of the above suggestions resolve the issue. They might be able to provide more specific guidance based on your project details and software version.

By following these steps and carefully checking your settings, you should be able to identify the cause of the incorrect georeferenced coordinates and successfully set the location of your point cloud in ReCap Pro 2023.1.
