Is there a way to recover clean up scans after re-import structured E57?

Hi,

I did a long cleanup work on a project with 600 scans but unfortunately I lost the real views after exporting to cloudcompare for georeferencing and then re-import to Recap Pro.

Is there a way to bring back the cleanup scans on a newly import E578 file including the RealViews?

Thank you for your help.

Recovering the cleanup work on your scans after re-importing a structured E57 file can be tricky, but there might be a chance to salvage some of your edits depending on the specific software you used and your backup practices. Here are some approaches to consider:

1. ReCap Pro's Undo History (Limited):

  • ReCap Pro offers a limited undo history. If you haven't performed many actions since re-importing the E57 file, you might be able to use the undo function (Ctrl+Z) to revert to a point before the re-import.

2. Backup Files:

  • Check if your software creates backup files of project data. Some software automatically creates backups at regular intervals or upon saving. These backups might contain the state of your project before the re-import. Consult your software's documentation for backup file locations and procedures for restoring them.

3. CloudCompare Project Files (If Applicable):

  • If you used CloudCompare for georeferencing, it's possible that the software creates project files containing information about your edits. These files might not directly translate to ReCap Pro, but they could serve as a reference for recreating your cleanup work.

4. Manual Recreation:

  • As a last resort, you might need to manually recreate the cleanup work on the re-imported E57 file in ReCap Pro. This would involve replicating the filtering, editing, and registration steps you performed previously.

General Recommendations:

  • Develop a Backup Strategy: Always maintain a backup of your project files before performing major edits or exports. This could involve manual backups, cloud storage, or software-specific backup features.
  • Document Your Workflow: Consider keeping a log or notes documenting the steps you take during cleanup and editing. This will help you recreate the process more efficiently if needed.
  • Explore Software Features: Familiarize yourself with the features offered by ReCap Pro and CloudCompare for managing and manipulating point cloud data. This can help you avoid data loss in the future.

Data Loss Prevention:

Unfortunately, if none of these suggestions work, you might have lost your cleanup work permanently. This highlights the importance of data loss prevention strategies. Here are some additional tips:

  • Non-Destructive Editing: Whenever possible, utilize non-destructive editing tools that don't permanently alter the original scan data. This allows you to revert to previous versions if necessary.
  • Incremental Saves: Save your project frequently throughout the workflow. This creates multiple checkpoints in case of software crashes or unexpected data loss.

By following these recommendations, you can minimize the risk of data loss in future projects and streamline your point cloud editing workflow.

Hi Alex,
Thank you for your rely.
Unfortunately this doesn't solve my problem, I would like to get the realviews back into my project that I spent quite a lot of time to clean.
I lost the real views while I exported the file to cloud compare for georeferencing as I couldn't do it in recap before I upgrade to the last version.
Is there a way to get back the realviews into my project or to bring back the cleaned scans into a new project?
Thanks in advance.
Best regards
Vincent
