I've used scan to mesh a few times successfully.
Today, however, no such luck.
At first, I was attempting to use the feature and it kept returning an error of "service temporarily unavailable".
This error occurred when upload progress reached 5%
So, I waited til later and attempted again.
This time, I opened the project and the scan to mesh option is grayed out with a message that reads "object mesh only available for structured scans"
These are fls files from a Trimble TX5 scanner. Hence, they are "structured" scans.
Any ideas?
workaround?
Thanks

Hi @eucci,
Can you see the panoramic images, or access RealView?
Something with your project might have changed.
If you can access RealView than definitely you should be able to run Scan-to-Mesh.
Thank,
Mitko

Hi @eucci,
Your project might be damaged. You can try to recover your project with the backup .rcp files in your project support folder.
If it cannot recovered, you can create a new project and then reimport the .rcs files. This could help you to recover structure information of your project.
Thanks,
Yan

I'm finding that extensive deleting of points from the scan does 2 things:
1. At a certain point, A360 will no longer allow the project to be uploaded.
I can upload the unadulterated project no problem. I can even delete some points and still upload. But, only to a certain degree. If I continue to delete points the project will no longer publish to A360. I will get the error message "Upload Error The Requested Autodesk Service is Temporarily Unavailable"
I have no idea what the threshold is.
2. If I continue to further delete points eventually Recap will no longer recognize it as a "structured scan" and no longer allow me to use the "cleanup" or "mesh" features.

Hold on...
I am able to upload the project on another workstation...
They are both running the same version, same OS, Same malwarebytes and defender, and firewall settings.

ok,
After testing on two workstations I'm consistently getting the same behavior.
1. Delete a substantial amount of points in a scan project.
2. Save as project and using the "remove points" option when doing so.
3. Attempt to upload the project to A360
4. Get the error message "Upload Error The Requested Autodesk Service is Temporarily Unavailable"

Just realized that I didn't answer your question.
In the last case that I mentioned just prior, I can still see Real View and all scan locations are still available.
Also, scan to mesh and clean are available options.
It was just the upload to Recap 360 (A360) that was failing at 5% consistently with files that had been highly edited.
Unadulterated files had no trouble at all.

So, Its been a week without any solutions.
Isn't this supposed to be escalated?
This issue is substantially effecting the usefulness of the scan to mesh feature.

Apologize for the late response.
We are not sure if it is because of the deletion or uploading process that might cause the change of rcp file.
It will be appreciated if you can share your rcp to us for further investigation.
Also, when you are using scan-to-mesh feature, deleted points will still appear in the result. So it is suggested to use clip tool and limit box tool to hide the points you don't want to appear in the mesh result.
If you don't delete points and remove points from project, does it work for you to upload the project and use scan-to-mesh feature?
Thank you,
Yan

yan.fu,
What is the best way to get you the recap files?
I tried to attach the .rcp files and I got the following error message:
"does not have a valid extension for an attachment and has been removed."
So, it sounds from what you are saying that the only way to limit points is with the bounding box.
If that's the case, then it appears that I can't do what I was attempting to do anyway.
I was trying to eliminate some of the noise in the scan (people, vehicles, etc.) prior to converting it to a mesh.
According to your last post, this is not possible unless it can be done by shrinking the bounding box.
Thanks

Hi @eucci,
Thank you for sharing. My co-worker will contact you to get the file.
I may not make it not very clear in my last post.
Besides limit box, you can also use Clip tool to hide the noise points.
Thanks,
Yan

"If you don't delete points and remove points from project, does it work for you to upload the project and use scan-to-mesh feature?"
Yes, If I do not delete the points, upload and scan to mesh work fine.

Hi,
I have shared a box folder with your email address to facilitate the upload of the files. Please let us know if you have any issues.

Ashwini,
I am uploading now.
V6 is one that was still working.
V8 is the same file with a few more point deleted that no longer shows as "structured" and will not upload to A360

While the clip tool may allow you to remove points in a limited way, you cannot move through a scan and remove points using the clip tool in nearly the same way that you can when you are deleting out points. For example, if I have a room and I want to go in and eliminate objects within the room I can clip away the outside walls and then manually go in and delete out points. When I'm done I can un-clip the walls to turn them back on. This cannot be accomplished with the clip tool alone.
By using clip tools along with delete points there are is far more control when selectively removing parts of a cloud.
Thanks
Eric
