Point Cloud Classification Button Missing

I am running version 24.0.0.240 and I am trying to classify points in the cloud. When I select points with a window or a fence, I only have the following buttons: Region, Clip Outside, Delete, Clear.

Why? What is necessary to cause the button to appear?

I tried running the latest version which was 2025 but it failed the Automatic Ground Classification. It wouldn't hang but after the process was complete, I only had unclassified in the classifications list, no ground, and all points remained unclassified. At least this 2024 version will actually create a ground classification and has grabbed most of the points properly. I don't see anything useful in the help files and a youtube video made no mention of anything other than selecting the points in order to classify them. I must be missing something obvious but can't figure it out.

Hi Justin,
I haven't tried selecting points with window or fence, but I'm not having any problems with Automatic Ground Classification. Have you tried it without selecting points? Have you tried with other point clouds?

Using the newest version available, automatic ground classification was not working for me. I did not try a different point cloud. I figured out that I needed to use at least 2024.1.1 version to have the option to classify points into categories other than ground. Automatic ground classification was successful using that version. Not sure why the latest version doesn't work but this older version does work.

Hi @justinpickens,

Manual classification is supported since ReCap Pro 2024.1. (Refer: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/recap-forum/autodesk-recap-pro-2024-1-and-recap-viewer-2024-2-release...)

I tried both ReCap Pro 2025 and ReCap Pro 2025.1. Automatic ground classification works for me.

May I understand more about the scenario when automatic ground classification fails?

  • Is there enough memory?
  • Is there enough disk space where the ReCap project stays?
  • Is the ReCap project or the folder where it stays read-only?
  • Could you check there is indeed only one classification? You can check this by activating classification color mode. (The document contains information about how to switch to classification color mode: https://help.autodesk.com/view/RECAP/ENU/?guid=classification_mgmt)
  • Does automatic ground classification work for a different ReCap project?

Best regards!
