There are several reasons why a large number of scans might not be visible in your project after importing them from a Faro Scanner (.fls folders) into ReCap Pro. Here's how to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Verification:

  • Double-check File Paths: Ensure the .fls folders are copied to the correct location within your ReCap Pro project directory. Verify there are no typos or incorrect folder structures.
  • File Compatibility: Make sure ReCap Pro supports the specific .fls file format from your Faro Scanner model. Refer to ReCap Pro's documentation for supported file types.

2. ReCap Pro Settings:

  • Index Options: Check the indexing settings in ReCap Pro. Ensure the option to automatically add scans during import is enabled. You might also need to manually refresh the scan index after copying the folders.
  • Visibility Filtering: ReCap Pro might have visibility filters applied. Check the "Visibility" tab or menu options to ensure all scans are set to be visible.

3. Project Settings:

  • Registration Settings: If your project involves registering scans (aligning them in space), incorrect registration settings could lead to some scans being hidden because they fall outside the defined reference frame.
  • Large Project Handling: For projects with a large number of scans, ReCap Pro might have performance limitations. Consider adjusting settings like "Octree Levels" or "Point Budget" to improve display performance.

4. Software Limitations:

  • Hardware Limitations: In rare cases, your computer's hardware (RAM, graphics card) might not be sufficient to handle a large number of scans simultaneously. Try reducing the number of scans displayed at once or closing other resource-intensive applications.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Verify File Paths and Compatibility: Double-check file locations and ensure compatibility.
  2. Refresh Scan Index: In ReCap Pro, manually refresh the scan index to detect the newly copied folders.
  3. Check Visibility Filters: Look for any visibility filters applied and ensure all scans are set to be visible.
  4. Review Registration Settings: If applicable, verify that registration settings don't unintentionally hide scans.
  5. Adjust Project Settings: Experiment with "Octree Levels" or "Point Budget" settings to improve performance.
  6. Test with Smaller Datasets: Try importing a smaller subset of scans to see if the issue persists.

Additional Tips:

  • Consult the ReCap Pro documentation for specific instructions on importing Faro Scanner data and managing large projects.
  • Search online forums or communities for ReCap Pro users. You might find solutions or workarounds reported by other users who faced similar issues.
  • Consider contacting Autodesk support for ReCap Pro if none of the above suggestions resolve the problem. They might be able to provide more specific guidance based on your project details and software version.

By following these steps and exploring the potential causes, you should be able to identify the reason behind the missing scans and get your complete point cloud data visualized within your ReCap Pro project.
