Import of ONE LAS file

Hi

We have a GeoSlam handheld scanner in house for testing. This scanner with its IMU unit scans rapidly while going and without installing the tripod station for scanning. Then, after scanning we tried to import the one outcoming LAS file into Recap Pro. We have run many projects with our FARO stationary scanner importing several scan stations to cluster and register them. But how Recap manages the LAS file from GeoSlam?

How would it be possible to import the control point txt-file of the checker boards?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @eddy.meyer,

Please, review this link to learn more about “Working with Targets”. Also, the control point dialogue will show up at the bottom of the screen during the registration process. You can upload the control file from the drop-down list, then pick the corresponding point from the list. Please, let me know if this helps.

Thank you and have a great day!!!

Hello Anil

Thank for your reply. This prodedure you described I know very well and is not a solution. In my case I have only one imported LAS –file and Recap immeadiately proceeds to the index step and I cannot enter or load the coordinates. You are right since you have more than one scan-stations to import, then Recap starts the registering modus (left & right photo panels on the screen). In such a case one can easily import the control point file as you said of course. But what about my case? I am aware that the lidar with GPS and IMU is already geo-referenced and there is no need to load a Coordinate file and to measure the points in the pictures/pointcloud. But in my case I have only a IMU (without GPS) and I want to reference my pointcloud to a global coordinate system.

I hope my problem is now clear?

Hi @eddy.meyer,

I understand your work flow but since you have only one point cloud scan which is not structured, therefore you will not be able to import control point text file for your checker board targets. You can try modifying coordinate system by selecting physical origin and manipulating x/Z planes in data using Update Origin tool:

If you have any feedback that you would like to submit regarding any enhancement, please click on the “ReCap IdeaStation” link on the ReCap community home page.  This will help the Project Manager and developers hear your voice on any changes/concerns with functionality directly for consideration in future builds.

Please, let me know if this helps.

Thank you and have a great day!!!

A workaround for "I understand your work flow but since you have only one point cloud scan which is not structured, therefore you will not be able to import control point text file for your checker board targets. "

is to copy the one LAS file onto another filename and import that also.

Then you have 2 (identical) clouds and you can use registration and target points in Recap.

After registration ans all,

use Save As, delete the 2nd cloud and save again.

Dear Patrick

Thank you for your WA-Proposal. Did you try that out by your own? I tried it, then I get two files imported but without any possibility to enter the registration process (see Screen dump below). So it looks like the same...Tried-out-workaround-Recap.JPG

I believe in that workflow it has something to do with the file format (structured vs. unstaructures scan data):

LAS - no registering possible

i.e. FLS - re´gistering possible

Regards,

Karsten.
