DJI Phantom 3 Professional

After seeing the capabilities with a drone for use in ReCap and then to Revit I am considering purchasing a drone and camera.  I doing my research DJI is coming out with the Phantom 3 next month and I don't want to purchase an older model if I can help it.  I see that the the GoPro Hero 3 and 3+ are directly supported and so are normal cameras.  I notice the main difference is the fisheye lense is why the need for the GoPro to be supported.  I'm assuming the Phantom 3 Professional is "not" a fisheye lense.

Do you get better end results from a fisheye lense in the conversion?  I'm looking for opinions and advise.  Should I go with the old or just order the new and hope for the best?

Thanks in advance.

Nice, this guys really know how to make good cameras

It's not that important if it's a fish eye lens or some other. The results really depands on the sharpnes and the details of the photos.

How sharp those end pixels really are. The more detailed and clean photos you have the better models the photogrammetry services will produce.

Besides supporting all regular lenses, for fish eye we only support GoPro 3 & GoPro 4 because of popular demand.

Best,

So just to clarify or get some more feedback there. Is the Phantom 3 Professional supported??

Yes.

Phantom 3 and Inspire 1.

Basically images from any non-fish eye lens are supported by ReCap.

I want to buy the Phantom 4 professional. That drone already brings a camera. Does it work for Autodesk Recap?

Thanks in advance

We haven't tested this one yet, but basically ReCap supports any rectilinear lens, which should include the latest one from DJI and Phantom 4.

Considering that this is an improved camera from the Phantom 3, the models generated from ReCap should be even better.

Hi! We've worked with DJI before. I can recommend you Inspire 1 Pro which includes a far better camera than the phantom, plus the specs are way better except Inspire 1 Pro is more expensive.

We've tried it with Recap before and I can tell you it works like charm, except for the fact that you really have to take good photos, otherwise you'd have to do manual stitching and it's a hassle.

Good luck!
