Hello All, 

 

I was wondering if PowerMill is capable of slicing like this?

Just an additional comment and observation:

I am aware of the Autodesk Help option (image below). Class 7 is what I am looking forward to learn more about!

Hello @fghadamli Currently, the additive strategies within PowerMill only support slicing that is 'conformal' with the base surface. So, it cannot do the type of slicing you have shown. Certainly, the intention is to extend current capabilities.

 

Until then, users have re-purposed the machining strategies and/or used PowerShape to construct the paths they require.

Hi @fghadamli , you can achieve the slicing you've shown, in Powermill, by splitting the body into 3 sections and then programming each section using an additive toolpath (as it looks like you have 3 sections of slicing in your image). If you require slicing that is conformal to the curvature of the pipe, that is the orientation of the slice is perpendicular to the tangent of the pipe, this can be done by creating a toolpath from imported curves. These could be created in CAD (Powershape, for instance).

Yes, the immediate solution that came to our team's mind was to perform the geometry decomposition and slice every section separately. The challenge with this route is how to decompose the part correctly so that the slicing could be done effectively. The paper that I pointed out actually is a pretty good reference for such decomposition.
