Hi @john

Welcome to the PowerINSPECT Forum, I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing difficulty using PowerINSPECT.

Without divulging any personal data about yourself or your company can you provide us with a little more detail about your environment and workflow?

What type of computer are you using? Desktop or laptop? Brand and model? What type of graphics card or display adapter are you using?

Which version of Windows - 7sp1, 8, 8.1 or 10?

Which Tier of PowerINSPECT 2017 - Standard, Premium or Ultimate?

Which Service Pack level of PowerINSPECT 2017 do you have installed - CR, SP1, SP2, SP3, SP$ or SP5?

Does PowerINSPECT launch successfully?

Can you create a new document without PowerINSPECT shutting down?

Can you open an existing document?

Can you import any CAD data if it stays open?

With a little more information we can guide you in the right direction to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

Thanks

Dave.

The computer I am running is an ASUS desktop.  Not sure on the model number but it has an i7-2600 CPU, 16GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti graphics card.

Which version of Windows - 7sp1, 8, 8.1 or 10?

The O/S is Windows 10.

Which Tier of PowerINSPECT 2017 - Standard, Premium or Ultimate?

Premium

Which Service Pack level of PowerINSPECT 2017 do you have installed - CR, SP1, SP2, SP3, SP$ or SP5?

SP6.

Does PowerINSPECT launch successfully?

PowerINSPECT launches successfully and can connect to the FARO Arm Gage.

Can you create a new document without PowerINSPECT shutting down?

No, opening a file or creating a new document causes the program to crash immediately.  This occurs not only in PowerINSPECT 2017, but all older versions I attempted to install as well.  The program will start and connect to the inspection tool but then crashes immediately upon opening or creating any document.

Hi @Anonymous,

These symptoms are very unusual and the fact that you report they occur over several different versions of PowerINSPECT leads me to think the cause may be environmental rather than any specific PowerINSPECT defect.

I have a number of suggestions for you to try:

1. Upgrade the graphics driver - this appears to be the latest available driver for your GTX 650 Ti

http://uk.download.nvidia.com/Windows/378.92/378.92-desktop-win10-64bit-international-whql.exe

2. Upgrade your Faro driver - this is 5.8.5.2

https://faro.app.box.com/s/5qy9vjae4p2gy65yjcm1rcsplqrpwlex/1/5361871829/135420033396/1

3. Keep checking and installing all Microsoft Updates for your Windows 10 installations until no more are available.

4. Right click the desktop PowerINSPECT icon and select Run As Administrator

5. Log in as a different user in case your user profile is corrupted. If there is no other user account, create a new account (set as administrator).

6. Try selecting a different connection protocol (Virtual CMM for example) before attempting to create a new document.
