Adaptive point

I am trying to lock a GTP point to a point by intersection inside an adaptive family.  How would I accomplish this?  I don't fully understand how to use the adaptive point button, if someone could summarize that would be great!  Nothing in the documentation.

TLDR: The adaptive point button is for adding points to those adaptive points at the project level, not at the family level.
