Which algorithm is used for Topology Optimization in Netfabb Ultimate 2019 - is it an evolutionary algorithm like Bidirectional Evolutionary Structural Optimization (BESO) or a gradient-based approach?

Optimization Utility for Netfabb is using Autodesk Nastran for the solid model topology optimization. This  solution type in Autodesk Nastran uses SIMP, solid isotropic material with penalization, which is a gradient-based approach. If you want to dig more into the technical details of topology optimization in Autodesk Nastran, I recommend taking a look at the recorded AU course Topology Optimization in Autodesk Nastran In-CAD, co-presented by David Weinberg who is the creator of Autodesk Nastran.
