Tags and annotation not placed. Unless view is rotated.

Has anyone noticed Tags and Annotations not being placed in certain view rotations in NWD files. A saved viewpoint is created but no tag or annotation placed, even after a comment is entered. If the view is rotated to a difference orientation tags can be placed. Rotate back to original orientation, not even exactly but near - not working again!!!!

Using Navisworks Manage 2019 with all patches. Same problems existed in Simulate 2016.

Hi, stirling.hamersleyMZ4QR,

I'm Judy from Revit/Navisworks Technical support. I see you're having a problem with tag visibility in Navisworks. I'll be happy to help you out! Can you send me more information? It would be great if you could make a Screencast video showing me the steps you are taking and where and how the problem occurs.

Does your computer meet or exceed the System Requirements for Navisworks 2019? It might possibly have to do with the video card or its driver, so that would be something to look into. You might try updating your video card driver.

Thanks, and looking forward to your reply!

Best,

Judy_S

Hi Judy,

I have checked my computer. All drivers up to date. I tried changing the driver options in the Navisworks Options dialog.  No luck.

This occurs on all computers in our office, most purchased this year. The problem seems to be file specific.

If you have a way I can DM the file to you that may help.

Thanks,

Stirling.

Hi, stirling.hamersleyMZ4QR,

Thanks for the file. I worked with it for a while and was able to add text and tags, but perhaps I'm doing something different from what you're doing. Will you be able to send me a Screencast video? That will help me reproduce the exact steps you are doing and see if I get different behavior. Thanks!

Best,

Judy_S

Hi, stirling.hamersleyMZ4QR,

Just wanted to check with you to see if you wanted to send me a video so I can do some additional troubleshooting for you. Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.

Thanks!

Hi Judy,

I think I have shared a Screen Cast with you.

Hi, Stirling,

Indeed you have! Nicely done, and thank you very much for doing the video. I'll try to reproduce the steps you take sometime today and let you know whether I get the same results or something different; that will tell me where to go next with troubleshooting. Thanks again!

Hi, Stirling,

I was able to reproduce the issue in your file, so I tested your file in 2020 and got approximately the same behavior. Then I tested a different nwd file in NW 2019 and had no problems at all with tags and viewpoints. I suspect there's something going on in the file you're using. What software was used to create the nwds inside your nwd? Is there anything else unusual about the model? That might help us figure out what is causing the behavior. Let me know whatever you can. Thanks!

Hi Judy,

The file you have was from Advanced Steel using the export to NWD function though we also have many instances of the same problem in files generated from MicroStation.

Thanks,

Stirling.

Hi, Stirling,

Thanks for the information. I'm researching now to see whether I can find out if there's any information about problems using tags in NW with these types of files. If I don't find anything, the next step will be to send the issue to development for further investigation. I'll keep you posted.

Hi, Stirling,

I will be sending your file to development for further testing to see why this behavior is happening. It will probably be several days until I have an update for you, but I'll keep you posted when I have some news. Thanks for your patience while we look into this.

Best,

Hi, Stirling,

I have an update for you, and thank you for your patience while we looked into the problem with the tags. The issue has been identified as a bug in the software, and development is working on a solution for it. I can't give you any timeline on when it might be available, but in the meantime, I can tell you that this is what they found: the problem is related to the projection being orthographic, and the camera being very far from the origin.

Here are the workarounds:

1. Use perspective projection views, or

2. Move the model closer to the origin. (The first idea might be simpler.)

Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

Hi Judy,

Thanks for the follow up. Yes we can't change the origin as the models are geospatially correct and fit in with a large project. The perspective view works, though that has its own annoyances when rotating views as far as the model disappearing etc. We can get by until the fix is released.

Cheers,

Stirling.
