Navisworks - Quantity Takeoff

Hello,

I am using Autodesk Navisworks Simulate 2017.

I am very new to the program and trying to get a material take-off.  The workflow I am using is per the getting started videos.  I keep getting the error message that suggests I do not satisfy the following criteria:

"To carry out model takeoff, objects must be either a group, layer or model. If you try to takeoff a model object that is an instance, or if the object does not contain a GUID or properties, an error message is displayed."

In my case I selected "levels" or an object that shows as a "cell" in the selection tree, which appear in the selection tree as highlight blue selected items.  I know the selection is either a "layer" or maybe a model but do not know how to confirm that it is being read properly since it appears to have originated as  Bentley dgn type model format that uses levels and cells.  Any suggestions on the easiest way I can do a quantity takeoff, if possible ?

Hi CADEng2014,
Try selecting objects on the level with the most properties in the properties windows. At this level each object has its own ID.
In revit for example this level is at family level.

Ronald,

Thanks for your feedback.  Under the Selection Tree, I selected Properties pulldown and selected a set, then expanded an item.  The error I got is attached for your reference.  In the properties there are lots of data such as line number, PID, etc.  Is it likely I am doing something incorrectly or just not selecting the correct models?  If I isolate a pipe run, and make a group of the objects, would that help generate a quantity takeoff of those items ?

Ronald,

I found a detailed video outlining the use of the Quantification tool and how to do a model, virtual and 2d takeoff.  I was able to navigate in the selection tree until I could see the GUID number appear in the properties.  I was also able to paly around with the selection options, saving selection sets, and adding groups/items to catalogues to get appropriate takeoff.  However, I found the model takeoff just not working.  I continue to get the error message that states I need a model, GUID, or group to get the takeoff quantities.  This experience leads me to believe the model may not be a correct model for Navisworks since it comes from a Bentley application.   Is that a common problem or could I still be missing a workflow step ?

Ronald,

The model is too large for the response attachment to work.  If you have an ftp site, I can upload it, or if I can export out a FBX file, will that work?

Try putting the file on your A360 drive:

I have the plant model uploaded to BIM360 but I cannot invite you without an email address.  Can you share an email address ?
