Importing another file input formats as inp

Dear all,

I kindly ask you for information about the option to provide importing some other file formats (like inp file) beside common set. Namely in some cases post-processors for other software or certain conversion apps.

I would like to try my simulations in Autodesk Nastran with inp format. Maybe there is a conversion application from inp <->bdf or similar.

Best regards,

Mico

Hi Mico,

I am not aware of any Autodesk products that will convert Abaqus files (.inp) into a Nastran format.

Does anyone have other suggestions?

If not provided, indicate the version of Inventor Nastran you are using.
If the issue is related to a model, attach the model! See What files to provide when the model is needed.

Dear Mr Holtz,

thank you for your prompt reply. It seems to me the Autodesk Simulation had such opportunity (much more various kinds of input formats to be imported), but if I know well, , Autodesk has stopped the development of Simulation with new versions. My small suggestion is, if possible to keep such opportunity in the new generation of FEA applications of Autodesk.

It seems that many complement and specific meshing or optimization applications use various formats of input files (like inp), so probably it might be useful for Autodesk to cover it and to be more competitive in such importing capacity segment. Maybe also, it could be extended the output formats portfolio. In

In addition, I kindly ask you for python scripting opportunity. If it is possible I need the site with examples.

Sorry for many questions. 🙂

Best regards,

Mico

Dear Eliana,

I kept the installation of Autodesk Simulation 2017. It is the last version which has been developed and there is no further development.

Autodesk Simulation 2017 can import inp file and many others.

I hope Autodesk will provide wider opportunities for input in the future versions of Autodesk Nastran.

You know, bdf and inp files are almost "FE formatting standards" like in additive manufacturing stl and obj. 🙂

No matter who made it before as standard, but all companies provide input of stl and very often obj.

All the best,

Mico

I think, not 100% sure, REVIT cannot import inp file. I don't use REVIT now.

Only it is possible with Autodesk Simulation 2017 in Autodesk portfolio by now. Probably you can try some conversions between Autodesk applications for example: Autodesk Simulation > Revit and to the others as a potential bypass.
