This has happened to me a few times recently. I sculpt a model with 5 levels. When I close the document and open it again, levels 4 and 5 are gone. I mean, it's telling me the levels are still there but when I go one step up from 3, then the model disappears.
report it as bug...
Hello,
Thanks for posting to the Area forums.
Is there a reproducible workflow that I could test on my end? Maybe a file that we can test on our end?
You can definitely report this to development if you would like:

Cheers,
i believe its reproducible. It happen to me on numerous occasions on different files on my workstation. Danjay is not the only one with this issue. This is a widely known bug. If Autodesk would just take the time to test Mudbox thoroughly instead of heavily rely on users to report stuff.
To reproduce this. Subdivide mesh to lv 6 or lv7> add 3 or more layers> do some sculpting on each layer> save the file> exit and reload mudbox> open the file again.
This usually happens to high poly stuff in the 20 -30 million range.
It happened again, and the mesh is only around 4 million. Very annoying, lots of work lost. Sent a bug report through Mudbox.
