Level of detail zoomed out

Hi,

Apologies if this has been asked before.

I'm trying Mudbox 2016. One thing that's really annoying me is that when I zoom out I (very quickly) start to lose detail on the model I'm working on. It looks like Mudbox is performing some sort of Level of detail/polygon reduction opperation.

Is there any way to stop this.

Thanks in advance.

Hi coeuscreative!

Mudbox reduces the detail of tessellation based on the levels your object has.

If you have many object levels and the Level change tolerance in the Preferences is set high, the automatic viewport adaption may not be able to switch fast enough to the higher tessellation level when you zoom in very fast.

Try to reduce this value to 1 or below.

You can find more on this topic here in the help:

Mudbox help - Render preferences

It is also a matter of your computers graphic performance, how well (fast) Mudbox can properly switch between these levels while you zoom.

If you have whole objects disappear you might want to check also the clipping planes of the camera you use.

This depends on the dimensions of your overall scene.
