Venting / Grouping

The information in the help forum is rather vague on the differences between the three options for “Venting analysis locations grouping”.  My primary confusion pertains to weather all the nodes across the width of a vent must be selected when grouping is “off” or weather a single vent node assigned in the center of the vent area is adequate.

First, I am looking for an explanation to what assumptions are made for each setting.

Second, I am looking for an explanation for what nodes should be assigned as vents when using each setting.

The following Autodesk Moldflow Insight Help article is useful in detailing the correct venting analysis set up

ON (use vent property ID and node connectivity): If you have vents on multiple locations of the part that have the same Property ID, then you would want to use the Property ID and Node Connectivity grouping.  You are putting 2 conditions on the part so that if you have 2 vent locations on the part with the same Property ID, the analysis knows to treat these as separate vents and not one large vent.

ON (use vent property ID only):  Use this is you are using a Property ID once on the part
