Imported stl apears in red/pink...

Hi there

When i import a certain stl file in MM, it apears like in this picture.

Screenshot (2).png

The inspector did not find any erors, i can cut, transform and save it,  but when i do boolean operations, an unknown fatal error ocurred, and mm aborts.

Is something wrong with the stl and how do i repair it?

Thanks, Felix

Well, becase it is a model from thingiverse, you can try yourself if it behaves in your MM like in mine, it´s the Blade from the Jet Engine Fan:

Good luck...

This striped rendering means you are watching the faces' back.

You simply need to flip the normals:

Go to SELECT and SelectAll. Now run Edit/FlipNormals

Hi, my model have some normals in the right way and some in the wrong way, if i select all and press flip normals, it flips all, so now i got again some in the right way and some in the wrong way. How can i flip all in the right way? i was searching the "recalculate normals" in meshmixer but i didnt find it.

Try 'generate face groups' and flips the ones you want manually.

Or select a patch that is bad then delete it then repair with Analysis>Inspector.

Or if its a really bad scan and you have thousands to do then 'make solid.

Hi, thanks for the reply! I tried to do all the three things you’ve said, but any of them solved my problem, the convert to solid is indeed a powerful tool, in fact, the 99% of my 3d prints pass this modification before slicing. Finally i solved my problem of the flipped faces, but using other programs, and i don't know if i can write about other programs in this post, thank you so much for your reply!!!!

If your object is flipped partially like this:

Ohne Titel.jpeg

run EDIT/GenerateFaceGroups at the highest AngleThreshold. This creates a group for each flipped region and "positive" region:

Ohne Titel 2.jpeg

Now go to SELECT and double click all "positive" groups:

Ohne Titel 4.jpeg

Hit I to Invert the selection to flipped faces:

Ohne Titel 3.jpeg

Run Edit/FlipNormals:

hi, I have seen you on many posts regarding meshmixer. I have a stl file of a heart with the musculature in solid and the blood volume as empty. i want to obtain only the blood volume (as a solid) and 3d print that. any thoughts on how to do this with meshmixer?

Yes, always many ways and several different solutions to go about this, but since every mesh is so different, no answer can be confidently given without examining the file.

Could you start a new thread post for this and attach the file.
