Using Image Sequence with ColorLogic?

Hey I'm wanting to automate an intensity value using the colour from an image sequence I have, but if I plug the colour from File into ColorLogic it just sees black. Is there a way to output an actual colour value that ColorLogic can use?

Attached a screenshot. When I solo the file it displays the colour of the center pixel (floatconstant 0.5 plugged into UV coords) of the frame I'm on (107) but in color logic it still just displays black so it always outputs 1 no matter the frame.

So what I ended up doing is jacking up the contrast in premiere so that it's black and white and plugging the sequence in directly to the light colour. But I feel like using black colour to turn a light off is the wrong way to go about it and should be using intensity so I would still love to find a way to automate the intensity value using this image sequence.
