Recreating 3ds Max's "Texture Object Mask" in Maya?

Been trying to think of a way to do a certain effect in Maya where an object's textures can be controlled by using another object. I'm still in the dark on how to do this in Maya, but it turns out it does exist in Max, which gives me something I can point to:

Can anyone think of a way to pull this off in Maya? It's been bugging me for months.

Thanks!

There are better approaches to this that will give you more realistic looking terrains.

You can play with the snow shader as a texture or as a mask between 2 or more shaders, you can also use a a projection in the mix for the rock part or you can use World Machine for even better masks and terrain.

I don't actually need it to do terrain; its the masking effect itself I'm interested in. I'm trying to create a setup where a character becomes invisible wherever they intersect with a non-rendering primitive, and this Max shader seems it could do that.

Replying to my own topic in case anyone needs it, Arnold's Clip Geo shader seems like it could achieve the right result, provided one has access to 2019:
