Perspective distortion in render

Anonymous

Hi!

Why do my renders differentiate so much from viewport view? It is driving me crazy. I have a low poly model of game weapon and in viewport looks nice , but when i render it it looks wider and shorter. I changed focal length , angle of view in my camera. Nothing worked. Any help would be much appriciated.

Another image

White one is rendered, gray one is in  viewport .Both models are 1:1 scale.

Thank you for the reply.

Yes, I am rendering from same camera. I am using mental ray. I also tried maya software and v-ray. Same result. Here are my render settings. I tried changing device aspect ratio to 1.5 and it helped a little bit with length of the gun, but it distorted its width. Changing angle of view and focal length in the camera attributes didn't help either.

Here are my render settings

I have. For some reason there no difference from perspective . I renamed the prefs folder to prefsOLD. That should load default settings. No matter what i pick under renderable camera(persp, front, back) render uses camera1. This is strange.  I uploaded scene so you can take closer look if you like. It is only a concept so far. But I need good render for paintover.

Let me take a look in a few hours . I'm in the middle of some render tests...its good that you got some new prefs, that should help us find the issue.

Later.

Just jumping in here for a second. I think the "Renderable Camera" setting is only honored during a batch render. If you click on Panels->Perspective, you can pick the camera that you are looking through, and that will also be the camera used when you render the current frame.

Interesting. Thx for the info. I didn't know that only works in batch renderer. I usualy use panels->perspective->camera1, so I don't change renderable camera setting too often.

That's really strange...camera1 worked fine when I tried it.

Does it renders correctly? I created 3 new cameras . Always same distortion. Am i being too demanding? Is it normal for that kind distortion to happen. I have been using maya for a year now and I don't think I had problem like this before. I am using Win 8.1 64bit and maya 2015 latest SP6.

All cameras are rendering now using the Render view>and choose a camera...seems to be accurate but I'll need to compare very closely, maybe in photoshop... I rotate the gun so the ends are touching the frame edge and looks accurate.

Did a quick render. It is really noticeable when viewed from top. It is like resolution gate is not displaying correctly.
